By late I don’t mean 12
By late I don’t mean oversleeping
Late mornings
When your coffee is a must
When you hurry at each step
When you grasp for breath
When you sweat through all your pores
When your taxi is a snail
Late mornings
Are uncomfortable
Late mornings
Are a reminder
That society is unforgiving
That you must, you must, you must
Damn it, be on time
Or before time, ahead of time, on top of time
This freaking time concept
I hate it!
Time should serve us
We should not be slaves to time
So I beg you, please!
Whomever you might be…
My boss, my cat, my friend, my dog, my lover
Allow me to be late
Just for a little while
Cuz you might be me
And I might be you
Just give me some time
To have my late mornings
It’s not a tragedy
A crime
A drama.
One day I will kill ‘Time’
And fearlessly, joyfully
Bury ‘Early’ and ‘Late’
I treasure late mornings. They are precious and rare in my life. But each one has a sweetness that late nights don’t have.

I agree. But somehow, I enjoy late night walks too, when everything seems asleep but at the same time so full of life and mystery

I used to do that at college. Walked past the silent academic buildings, the loud frats.

I’m always late and it’s the worst feeling! Would love to sleep in, drink my coffee slowly, breathe… Loved this poem!!

Same feeling here! And it is also the fact that different cultures and individuals have totally different reactions to being late. I am very indulgent, but in living in Shanghai right now challenges me a lot in this respect.

Yes, I can believe that!

I am not a morning person, I think they should be abolished altogether.
Ten o clock is a reasonable time to get up. 😜

I’m an early riser but it’s fine if others aren’t. I enjoy the peace and quiet while others sleep. 🙂

Wonderful poem. I’m an early riser, I’ll admit. I like to watch the sunrise. 🙂

You would be my perfect friend. If we arranged to meet at 10am, we’d arrive together – at 10.25. 🙂

Nicely written, although I have to admit, I’m a fanatic for being on time!

I totally understand. My partner is like that and we have small disagreements related to this. Society’s norm is to be on time and I stress out so much for not being on time.
